White Ibis

I found this guy on my way home. He was standing on the sidewalk but moved closer to the woods when I approached him. Then, he decided to pose for me by lifting his leg and turning his head.

More Dragonflies

I found a little trick photographing dragonflies. If they fly away, most of the times they'll come back and light on the same branch that they left. When that happens, I move in a little closer until I'm at the distance needed to shoot them closeup. They will get used to you being there and will stay as long as you want them to.

Micrathena Sagittata

Micrathena sagittata is a species of spider belonging to the family Araneidae. It is found in the eastern United States and throughout Central America.

This is a striking spider with a distinctive arrow-shaped abdomen which is largely yellow, with black depressions above and variable red and black patterning below (see picture). Males are up to 5 millimetres (0.20 in) in length (excluding legs), but females are much larger at around 9 millimetres (0.35 in). The males lack spines.

They leave a hole in the center of their web to assist in motion.

Backyard Dragonflies

It's nice to know at 55 years of age I can still hand-hold a camera with a macro lens and photograph a dragonfly going a gazillion miles per hour...

Spider Hunting

Welcome!

Welcome to my world of the small stuff. Most of these images were shot with a Canon 40D and a Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM lens, the non IS version. Some were taken using a Bogen 3021 tripod and some were shot hand held. The bigger subjects, such as the birds were shot using a Canon EF 100-400mm L USM lens. Again, some were shot using a tripod or monopod and the others were shot hand held. Enjoy!
